FIC has announced an on-sale date for its Neo1973, expected to be the first low-cost, high-volume phone with a user-modifiable Linux-based operating system. Additionally, the OpenMoko project building open-source software for the phone has published a wealth of technical resources.

Bin mal gespannt wie das hier in D am Markt ankommt. Wäre schon eine klasse Sache, wenn es endlich mal eine vernünftige Software für Handys gibt, mit der man Plattformunabhängig ohne proprietäre Software sein Handy betreiben kann. Wie die Hardware sich anfühlt muss man mal sehen, kann ich mir nur von den Photos schlecht vorstellen. Sollte das gut laufen werden sich aber bestimmt auch einige andere Hardware Hersteller der Openmoko Plattform öffnen.
